Kirk McMillan has first-hand knowledge of the opportunity and the challenges of an entrepreneurial enterprise, having worked for 19 years in a family-owned
business. After four years as Director of Development and General Manager of Twelve Baskets, Inc., he assumed the role of President and CEO of the
company. He was responsible for developing and implementing the company’s strategic initiatives as well as overseeing all day-to-day operations.
Under McMillan’s leadership, the company’s annual sales grew from $2 million to $75 million in a mature segment of the food industry. He negotiated a $15
million acquisition and maintained contracts with more than 100 vendors. The company was the acquisition target of a strategic buyer in the industry
in 2012, with McMillan leading the negotiation process.
McMillan founded RiseWell LLC, a consulting and coaching firm focused on business health and success for companies with $5 million to $150 million in revenue.
He served as Interim CEO for one of his clients, transitioning the international agricultural-distribution and -manufacturing business to the owning
family’s third generation, as well as increasing revenues from $13 million to $23 million in two years.
From 2011 through early 2015, McMillan served as VP Sales North America for FBN International, the largest peer-to-peer network for family-owned businesses,
with FBN spanning 55 countries and exceeding 8,000 members.
Coincident with Kirk joining Abraxas, he founded a Vistage CEO Group for leaders of businesses in the Charleston, S.C. area. Vistage has alumni and membership
exceeding 100,000 CEOs, business owners, and senior executives. As Vistage Chair, he coaches, mentors, and provides a rigorous forum for chief executives
to enhance their effectiveness, positioning their companies for long-term growth and successful transitions.
